Following your LIPOSUCTION surgery
under General anaesthesia, you will be required to stay in the clinic overnight
for observation, where you will be monitored and checked by the nursing
staff. You will be drowsy, but will
receive pain medication as necessary
The
following morning, after the surgeon has examined and checked you and
declared you fit to leave, your Linda Briggs Representative will collect
you and take you back to your hotel or apartment. Before leaving
the clinic, you will be given painkilling medication in tablet
form which should see you through the next 2-3 days. After this, you should not require pain
relief, but if you do, you can use non- prescription paracetamol (no
aspirin, ibuprofen or anti-inflammatory medication). Also pl
ease do not take arnica tablets. If necessary, you might als
o be given a sleeping table for the first two nights to help you get a
good night's rest.
You
will be given a Discharge Letter/Report, prepared by your surgeon,
giving details of your surgery/treatment, which you should keep with you,
and on your return home put safely away with your other important
health/medical documents - in the unlikely event that you should develop
any complications then your doctor will need to see this letter.
You
must wear the support/compression garment/s that
you have been fitted with, as this is very important for your recovery.
It is essential that you follow your surgeon's instructions on the wearing
of this. These garments encourage healing by preventing the affected tissues from moving
after the Liposuction procedure, and can also help prevent your blood from
clotting. You must wear the garment/s 24/7 for the first week
without removing it. Your surgeon will advise you, at your
final check up, as to how long you should keep wearing it. For
the first week you should not remove this at all - not even to shower or
wash.
After
returning to your accommodation you should rest as and when you
feel it is necessary, but in between these periods of rest movement is
necessary to promote circulation - but please limit this to minor
activities only.
Do
not shower/bath for the first seven days after surgery,
and after this, only shower or bath in warm and not hot water. Take
care when removing/replacing the support garment/s and also when in the
shower (some patients find it easier to shower sitting down on a
stool or chair). After
your shower or bath it is vital that you replace your support garment/s
straight away.
It
is also recommended that you do not drink alcohol for the first 2-3
days after your surgery, and after this period keep it to a reasonable
amount! Also it is important that you do
not smoke for at least 2-3 weeks following your surgery.
After
Liposuction there may be some bruising and some numbness, as well as
swelling, but this bruising and numbness should start to disappear
after 1-2 weeks.
The
swelling will start to go down after one week, but
can remain for longer. You should be able to resume your no
rmal activities after a week. Do not be concerned if the swelling
does remain after this period or if you feel lumpy in the liposuctioned
treated areas.
Physical
exercise such as aerobic/weight training and other gym work - and also
sports - should be avoided for at least 3 weeks,
but your surgeon will give you individual advice on this.
You
should not go in the sauna or have any type of massage for 3-4 weeks
following your Liposuction procedure.
The
results of your Liposuction surgery should be completely visible at around
3-4 months - in the meantime you must be patient!
